Sketchbook #5 Due Friday Feb 14th
Look around for things with text outside of school. This could be a sign, a newspaper ad, a book cover, a cereal box, etc. Pick three examples of unique lettering that you think go well with  the message being portrayed and are effective for the reader. Sketch these texts in your sketchbook and what they are printed on. Write a sentence or so describing why you think each text is effective. Next look around for examples of text that are not effective, maybe too hard to read, too small, etc. Sketch three examples of bad text in your sketchbook, plus what it is printed on, and write at least a sentence explaining why it is not effective.

Learning Target: SWBAT... describe the difference between a CMYK,
RGB, RYB color wheel.
....share their name designs with the entire class.

1. Last minute turn in. Turn in jpg too!
Ms. VD checks for copyright AND color wheel answers. Have them ready!!!!

2.  Go over CMYK, RGB, and RYB color wheels. make sure you have the points.

3. Look at everyone's name project. Stand up and describe yours. Pretty simple.

4. Introduce new project- self-portraits.

5. Color Theory: R, O, Y G, B, V, K, W, B, P

Monday, Feb 3

Learning target: SWBAT... Turn in a completed .psd and .jpg file of their name design to Ms. Van Dyke's teacher folder  and write a paragraph describing who's name they chose and how the imagery represents that person.

1. If you haven't completed the name designs project, that is your main priority today while you have access to Photoshop!!!! DO NOT MERGE ALL YOUR LAYERS.  You must also write a paragraph, on a separate piece of paper, and turn it in to me. Your paragraph must describe who's name you chose and how the imagery (each thing, be specific) represents that person.

2. When you are done with Name project, complete Sketchbook #3, see Tuesday's blog. You should have had this done today because it was your homework, even though we had a snow day it was still due today. However, we will go over it tomorrow.

3.If you are done with that, you may start on sketchbook #4: Values. Due Friday, Feb 7th For this sketchbook assignment you are focusing on value, with touches of balance, and shape. Write the definition of value at the top of a sketchbook page. Underneath, divide the page into two. On one side, draw a creative, organic shape (a shape that does not have a specific name/ one you made up, like a blob). Treating the page dividing line as a mirror, redraw the mirror image of your organic shape on the other 1/2 of the page. ON the left side of the page, you will fill in the background with a value scale going light to dark. On the right side of the page you will fill in the shape with a value scale going dark to light. Below is an example. The more creative your are and detailed with good craftsmanship, the better grade you will receive.

By Tomorrow you must have completed:
- Sketchbook #3
- Name designs project WITH PARAGRAPH
- answers to copyright questions in sketchbook

We will talk about the new project tomorrow as well.
self-portraits.
