Monday, March 31st --last day

Learning target: SWBAT... demonstrate they understand what a logo is by collecting 10 logos they really like the design of and drawing them in their sketchbook.

1. Check in. Where are we?
Raise hand  -- done with non-obj?
                  --written paragraphs for non-obj?
                  -- done with SKBK #8?
We will critique non-objective on Wednesday. Turn them in and I can print some.

2. New project--- Logos! You will design your own made-up, unique product, any sort of product, and create the logo for it. This project is not focusing on a product design project, but rather its focus is a logo design project.

3. TODAY YOU WILL: Start by searching the internet or using your brain for cool logos you like. Some of you did this for the text SKBK assignment instead of good examples of text. You need to find 10 logos that are interesting to you and draw them in your sketchbook. Yes DRAW. Get creative, use your brain.
A logo is a
is a graphic mark or emblem commonly used by commercial enterprises, organizations and even individuals to aid and promote instant public recognition. Logos are either purely graphic (symbols/icons) or are composed of the name of the organization (a logotype or wordmark). (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Logo)

 Some examples of logos are:

4. Start thinking about what product you want to design and what you want your logo to look like. Will it have the name in it? Or will it be more of an image or shape?

Friday, March 28th

Learning target: SWBAT... Complete their non-objective artwork by writing the paragraphs about it and turning it in to Ms. Van Dyke's teacher folder.

Today is a work day!!! You should finish up your non-objective artwork. We will most likely look at these next Wednesday and I will probably print some of them. Make sure you turn in and answer everything in the paragraphs for this project. You can hand write this and give it to the sub.

If you haven't turned in ALL parts of your surrealism project yet DO THAT FIRST!!!!! It is late!!!!

Paragraph about your non-objective-- Write a short paragraph(3-5 sentences) for EACH of your three non-objective pieces describing what grade you think you deserve and WHY. The focus for this project is composition, so describe why your composition is successful if you thought you deserved an A. Use artistic vocabulary like balance, unity, or emphasis. You can also describe your process of how you made the image and why you chose to make it look that way.
You will turn in your 3 non-objective pieces you created as well as your orginal picture you got off the internet and started from.

If you have finished all projects work on SKBK #8!!!!! Do the AP Art poster! See yesterday's blog! You can use word, photoshop, or publisher to do it. Or you can do the other assignment for SKBK #8, the 12 drawings. Still focusing on composition.

Be nice to sub! Save your work!

Balance, Emphasis, Movement, Unity, Contrast, Color, Texture, Line, Shape....

2. Critique surrealism-- read 2-3 stories. assess it.

3. AP art night poster.... when you are done with Non-objective. =SKBK #8

OR.>>>> SKBK #8-- Pick ONE object and draw it a total of 12 times in your sketchbook. Each time you draw it, you must change the  composition of it. Think of the angle, size, lighting, etc that the object can have. Pick an object that has enough details you can have 12 different drawings.  Your drawings can be about 2x2 inches each, so thumbnails. It should take up at least two pages in your sketchbook, 6 on each. You may draw in pencil or any media of choice. Again, still focusing on composition. Ex below:

Monday, March 24th

Learning Target: SWBAT.... explain what is asked of them for the rest of the week and for specific assignments.    ...all get on the same page.

We will do a lot of critiquing this week
1. You should have turned in your surrealism project by Friday. If you turn it in from now forward, tell me so I can take it off the server and put it in my folder where I grade from! I will get those grades in by next week.

We will do a lot of critiquing this week to ensure that everyone understands composition, what is asked of them for their projects, and how clear/successful their images are.

2. Sketchbook #7 Due WEDNESDAY!!!!!! Gum wrapper non-objective art. I changed the date to earlier because I will be gone Friday- track meet. This skbk focuses on Composition!!!!! We will be looking at all of these as a class and talking about which ones are successful or not, so make sure you bring it!!!! It can be on a separate piece of paper if you want.

3. You must have 3 non-objective works of art. KEEP ADDING STUFF. Work on all three at the same time and go between them to get a fresh look at what you should improve. It is good to step away and come back to something when you get stuck. Think of COLOR, BALANCE, EMPHASIS, TEXTURE, CONTRAST, MOVEMENT, UNITY, etc.

4. Work Time!!!!

5. SAVE!! log off.

Thursday, March 20, 2014

Friday, March 21st

Learning Target: SWBAT... distinguish between non-objective art and abstract art by identifying certain artwork.

1. Warm-up:  Which one of these is NOT non-objective?

Which one of these is the best composition? WHY?

2. Sketchbook # 7: DUE FRIDAY MARCH 28th        Gum wrapper non-objective art:
I will give you each ONE piece of gum with a shiny foil wrapper. Your assignment is to peel off the foil and stick it on to a page in your sketchbook to create a non-objective work of art. You will need to add other media to the page to make it a complete work of art. You may choose what other materials you use (magazine, pencil, black marker, stickers, etc). It must be non-objective!!!! You may add more gum wrapper peelings too, but you need to provide them. Your image must take up a whole page in your sketchbook! Focus on COMPOSITION!!!!! balance, movement, contrast, emphasis, etc.
Do NOT bend the wrapper too much, don't crumple it. Place the wrapper on a flat surface and scratch it with your nail as you press down on it. Once a little piece of the foil starts to peel off, not the white paper underneath, grab it and try to slowly peel a larger piece off. Continue peeling the foil off until the wrapper is only a thin piece of white paper. Press the foil piece down on your sketchbook paper with the back of your nail so it sticks. No glue needed!!

3. Work Time!!

4. SAVE!!!! Surrealism projects are due!!! TURN STORY AND IMAGE IN.

Wednesday, March 5th

Learning Target: SWBAT... explain how they made their letter project by writing a paragraph describing what letters each part of their image is made out of.

1. Story warm-up. Be creative and pay attention!

2.Review composition and rubric for project

A
B/C
ASSIGNMENT COMPREHENSION-

Image is a photo collage that tells a surreal story.  There is setting with background, middle ground, and foreground. Image is unique, has one light source, and is uniform. Nothing looks too separate from the rest of the image. All Images, including background, have been changed at least 60% if not artist’s photo. New tools learned were utilized.
Has met some of project requirements. Image does not have proper value or use many new tools we learned. Image is not uniform enough, things look too disconnected. There are not enough layers. Images are no changed enough if not personal photo.
CREATIVITY
Expression of ideas
The image is unique and creative! Student took risks to be different, thought outside the box to create an original imaginary storyline, and added small details using different new tools and techniques in unique ways. Their piece does not look like anyone else’s and story/image hasn’t been seen or heard before. Viewer is intrigued and wants to look longer at the image.
Image is not very detailed and is fairly mainstream, stereotypical, or predictable; student was not very unique, story may have been heard before, or image seen before. Piece is too plain and not many risks were taken to try new surreal ideas.
CRAFTSMANSHIP
Image is uniform with all images blended well and nothing looking too out of place. Images are crisp and clear. Nothing stands out as too blurry, pixelated, having different light sources, or sharp edges that don’t connect. All images are changed at least 60% if not personal photo. There is a setting in the image, not just floating objects. Rule of thirds is taken in to account, as well as other compositional elements like contrast, emphasis, movement, and balance.
Image is not as uniform as it could be due to parts that stand out as too blurry, having different light sources, sharp edges that don’t connect, or extra  parts of a photo that do not belong and should have been deleted. Not a uniform image, not much movement in image. lacking contrast or real emphasis.
REFLECTION/
CRITIQUE
Student writes at least a one page, detailed story that is illustrated in their project. Story has a plot line. Student is reflective of the creative process. Work is shown and explained in critique.
Student writes a story that is not very long or descriptive. Reader is confused after reading when looking at image.  Work is shown in critique but not explained (or vice versa).

Review tools-- stamp tool and marquee tool

While making your image, consider….

Light angles
Values
Size/Quality of image (pixels)
Unity
Craftsmanship
Layering
Background, middle ground, and foreground.

3. Work Time!!!!!  Last Day for letter project? Turn it in with a paragraph.
CHECK YOUR GRADES!!!! Did I miss somethings, do you have an assignment to turn in?

Work on Surreal project. DETAILS!
Write Story, detailed at least on page.

Next project-- illustrator?

Tuesday, March 4

Learning Target: SWBAT... describe what makes a good composition.

1. Talk about composition
  - Background, middle ground, foreground
  - Balance, Emphasis, Movement, Unity
  - Rule of thirds

2. Review tools in photoshop. Quick selection, magic wand, arrow tool, ctrl + t,
NEW TOOLS! Stamp tool Marquee tool.

3. Work time: Finish letter project. Write short paragraph about what word you chose and how you made your image out of those letters.
Turn in letter project!!!!

Then.... Start gathering pictures and creating your story. What will your story be about? Make sure they are high resolution photos.

Your photoshop file should be 150 resolution so images don't get pixelated.

4. SAVE!
