Everyone who is not a senior is expected to STOP working and listen respectfully to the seniors while they present their projects. No using your computer or phone during this time.

Monday, May 19th

Learning Target: SWBAT... determine how they will use their class time for the remainder of the school year by telling Ms VD a plan.

1. How was the sub?

2. Poster projects-- QUALITY vs QUANTITY---  If one poster is simple to make, the other one should be very very complex!!!! One must be about promoting ART and the other can be a CHOICE, but must communicate a message.

***SENIORS***
You have Today and 2/3 of the class Wednesday to finish everything in this class!!!!
You will be graded regularly on the poster project!! Do not slack on that one. You need two posters!
Your final project (up to you, choice of something made in Photoshop) can be smaller or less complex because you graduate early. This does NOT mean something you made in 5 minutes, this means something that takes you 3 hours instead of 6.
You will present your final project to the class, for a grade, Wednesday the last 30 minutes of class.

3. Work time--- WHAT ARE YOU MISSING????? Check Your grades
Work on your poster projects!!! TWO posters, look at my eBoard for requirement sheets. 11"x17" or 17"x11" and high resolution.

Tell them (and Ms. VD when I come around) what your plan or ideas for your final project are. If you are sort of stuck, help each other brainstorm, suggest ideas. Talk about it. Remember, it is worth 150 points, so it should look awesome and complex. Quality vs. Quantity.

4. Work on Poster projects.  WHAT IS YOUR CHOICE POSTER ABOUT??? WHAT IS THE MESSAGE YOU ARE COMMUNICATING???  Quality vs. Quantity

Friday, May 16th

Learning Target: SWBAT... Work diligently on their poster projects and complete about 75% of them.

Friday, May 9th

Learning Target: SWBAT... complete and turn in ALL parts to their creepy crawlers project.

1. You should finish your creepy crawlers project today and turn everything in. This is what you should turn in with your name LABELED with it.
-- JPG's of BOTH of your creepy crawler projects (vampire face, combining animals, and/or original drawing).
-- Original photos you used (lilke the face you made creepy, or the animals you used to combine)
--A separate highlighted rubric for each project image.
--A paragraph for each project that answers all the questions on the first page of the requirements sheet.

Go to my eBoard to find the requirements sheet. You can highlight right on that rubric and type your paragraphs under them and turn it in as one whole file that is labeled "name.creepyrubric"

You can print it and hand write it too if you want.

Wednesday, May 7th

Learning Target: SWBAT... Tell a partner what their poster project is asking of them.

CHECK YOUR GRADES... Did I miss anything? Is there anything, or any part of anything, you forgot to turn in or didn't do??????

1. SKETCHBOOK #9 --- last one!!!!  Due Wednesday, May 14th
This last skbk will be a brainstorming activity for your final choice project. Find a total of 10 images you are inspired by and print them all on one piece of paper. These can be anything digitally made and should inspire you to make something using photoshop. We will look at these next week and discuss ideas for your final project. What type of art are you naturally drawn too? What styles do you like best? What kind of art do you not like? What is something you wanted to make this year in this class and never got a chance to?
2. Go over poster project http://www1.eboard.com/eboard/servlet/BoardServlet?ACTION=NOTE_SHOW&ACTION_ON=NOTE&OBJECT_ID=6599266&SITE_NAME=ECS&BOARD_NAME=MaxVandyke&SESSION_ID=ifoh6th6g44vg07890&TAB_ID=659220

3. Finish up Creepy crawlers. Last time to ask me questions about it because I won't be here Friday. This is due on Friday!!!!!! Turn in the writing and rubric too.
Don't forget about Value and shadows! Make it look realistic!

4. Start brainstorming for your poster project. What do you want to send a message about?

Tuesday, May 6, 2014

Tuesday, May 6th

Learning Target: SWBAT... self- assess themselves using the rubric for their two creepy crawlers projects and writing a paragraph that answers all the required reflection questions.

1. Work on finishing up Creepy Crawlers project. Don't forget about VALUE in your piece. Add shadows so there is the same light source! Add shadow under teeth or under a body if you added it in to a landscape. Make it look realistic! I am going to be picky when I grade these!!!!!

Also think about DEPTH. things in the background are smaller, things in foreground are in front of other parts, overlapping.

2. If you are done with your creepy crawlers project turn it in as a JPG!!! Label it with your name!!!!Also turn in ALL MAIN ORIGINAL PHOTOS you used. This should include your face picture and your original animal images.
Self-assess yourself using the rubric on the requirements sheet. Go to my eboard to open it up and highlight certain parts you think your project falls under for EACH project. There is also a paragraph for each project. Yes EACH. I will grade you harder on the writing this time because I have been lax about it lately. Reflect on the project! This can be typed or handwritten and turned in. You can type it in the same file as the rubric if you want and turn that in, just make sure to rename it as your name-creepyrubric

1. How was the sub?

2. You need to pick what two projects you will do for the Creepy Crawlers. You should have done this yesterday.
Then you need to start collecting images for your projects (or drawing it). By the end of class you should have all the images you need to create the entirety of both projects. Save them!!! Remember you can use your own photos. Take a picture of your friend and turn them in to a Zombie!

Learning Target: SWBAT... Check their grades and determine what assignments or parts of assignments they are missing.
... Complete at least 80% of their scribbler project.

1. Some of your non-objectives were missing in my teacher folder. I know some of you have done them, but some of you I am not so sure ever actually completed three...

       Hector
       Lindsay
       Jack

2. Please show me your sketches and/or paragraph fro your Logo project. There were three parts to this project: the logo, the paragraph describing the product/business you invented the logo for, and three different sketches of your product or business.

3. Tomorrow is last day for class time for scribbler project!!!
Remember to make each part separately in scribbler and then combine them in photoshop.
What are your dimensions for your Scribbler image in Photoshop? Are they unique? Something different?

RUBRIC FOR SCRIBBLER:

A
B/C
D/F
ASSIGNMENT COMPREHENSION-

Final image is a collage of multiple(at least 6) drawings created on Scribbler in Photoshop. There is a unique composition, whether it is non-objective or objective.
Has met some of project requirements. Not many drawings created in scribbler (3-5). Compositional elements not strongly present in image.
There is little to no evidence of required criteria. Not enough evidence of understanding of Scribbler or combining them in Photoshop.
CREATIVITY
Expression of ideas
The image is unique and creative! Student took risks to be different, thought outside the box to create original images in Scribbler. Student let go and let the scribbly style be present. Other small details were added in Photoshop using different new tools and techniques in unique ways to combine the images to create one unified interesting image. Their piece does not look like anyone else’s and hasn’t been seen before. Viewer is intrigued and wants to look longer at the image.
Image is not very detailed and is fairly mainstream, stereotypical, or predictable; student was not very unique, or image has been seen before. Piece is too plain and not many risks were taken to try new scribbly style.
No risk was taken to be different. There were too few details in the final product  and it was not unique at all. Not intriguing to the viewer.
CRAFTSMANSHIP
Image is uniform with all scribbler images blended well and nothing looking too out of place. Images are crisp and clear. Nothing stands out as too blurry, pixelated, bothersome, confusing, or sharp edges that don’t connect. If image is objective it is easy to understand what the image is supposed to be. Dimensions of project are unique, not just a stereotypical square or paper size. Rule of thirds is taken in to account, as well as other compositional elements like high contrast, emphasis, movement, balance, space, variety of lines, value, and color.
Image is not as uniform as it could be due to parts that stand out as too blurry, edges that don’t connect, or color or line style. Image is a little confusing because things blend or are too messy.  Not much contrast, movement, balance, value, line or emphasis  in image.
Craftsmanship interferes too much with comprehension of image and the artist’s communication with viewer is lost. Image is too blocky, pixelated, not uniform, and not clear. No compositional elements taken in to account.
REFLECTION/
CRITIQUE
Student answers question below. Student is reflective of the creative process. Work is shown and explained in critique.
Question is half answered. Work is shown in critique but not explained (or vice versa).
Work is not (properly) shared in critique. No writing.
Describe the creative process of making your scribbler image in at least 6 sentences. Discuss things like what you were frustrated with, what you liked about the program or project, what went well, what didn't, how you came up with your image idea, how you made it, etc.

next project...

Tuesday, April 22, 2014

Tuesday, April 22nd

Learning Target: SWBAT... explain to a partner what their next project after scribbler will be.
... complete at least 50% of their scribbler projects.

1. Scribbler projects will be due on FRIDAY!!!

Get creative with your scribbler project. Let go and let it be a little messy. But be intentional! Yesterday should have been more of an experimentation day, so today you should focus on making most of your parts in scribbler and saving them using the snipping tool.

Make sure your project has UNITY and CONTRAST. the scribbley style makes it pretty unified, but you need to make sure the colors, line, etc are unified too and the piece as a whole makes sense. Since the scribbler can get a little messy and blurred, you need to make sure your images still are clear and stand out. You need to be able to tell what it is. You can do non-objective too, but it should have contrast still.

2. Explain New Project!  Creepy Crawlers!
http://www1.eboard.com/eboard/servlet/BoardServlet?ACTION=NOTE_SHOW&ACTION_ON=NOTE&OBJECT_ID=6578335&SITE_NAME=ECS&BOARD_NAME=MaxVandyke&SESSION_ID=gemhkfn5xuquw3000&TAB_ID=659220

I will go over new tools Thursday or Friday with you all.

3. Work Time!!! Scribble away! SAVE your work and each scribbler image.

Review scribbler... http://www.zefrank.com/scribbler/
Keep trying different things in scribbler until you feel like you can sort of control it.
Use the "snipping tool" to screen shot your scribbler images.
Make each thing separate and then combine them in Photoshop. Edit them any way you want, but only use images from scribbler. It should have that scribbler style and be a detailed image with multiple layers.

3. Work Time. You need to know what you are making in scribbler by the end of the day!!!

Writing for scribbler: Describe the creative process of making your scribbler image in at least 6 sentences. Discuss things like what you were frustrated with, what you liked about the program or project, what went well, what didn't, how you came up with your image idea, how you made it, etc.

Wednesday, April 2, 2014

Wednesday, April 2nd

Learning Target: SWBAT... demonstrate they understand what makes a successful composition by analyzing a classmate's non-objective artwork.

1. You must invent a new product or business! It can be not realistic if you choose to go more of a fantasy route. The logo design process itself is fairly simple and quick, so I will be looking for very unique, interesting logos, not just a cool font you typed a name in. Your grade for this project will also weigh a lot on the sketches and paragraph this time, not just the final image (logo) you turn in.

You will write about this product/business that has never been seen before and describe it to the reader. What is it for? Where can you get it? How does it work? How is it different from other things that already exist? How much is it?  etc.
Then you will design a unique, interesting logo for your product/business. It can be a logo based more on images, or one based more on text. How will you make your logo unique and interesting to the viewer?

You will turn in:
- Paragraph describing in detail the product/business, its uses, how it works, etc.
- A well crafted, unique jpg of your logo
- Sketches of your logo before you made it as brainstorming evidence
- Three different sketches of your product/business

2. SKBK #8 Due!!!!! Please turn in the poster to the server!!! Time is 6-8.
I will come around and check your assignments if you chose the 12 drawings.

Next sketchbook assignment is part of your logo project. SKBK #9 It is to sketch out your product from three different angles. This should look like a prototype or blueprint. You can sketch it from the side, front, back, or top, zoomed out, with someone using it, in a living room, etc. You must just have three different images of it.

3. Critique of Non-objective-- discuss composition using artistic vocabulary
color     form     line      shape      space      texture      value
balance   contrast   emphasis   movement   pattern    rhythm   unity

4. Work time!!!!! If you haven't written your paragraphs for non-objective yet do that NOW.

5. Save! log off.

Tuesday, April 1st

April?!?!... say what?

Learning Target: SWBAT... prepare a print ready image by changing the image size in photoshop of one non-objective piece they created that's their favorite to be closest to 11"x17" without being too pixelated and then turn it in labeled "PRINT(NAME)."

1. Review logos quick:

Without words-- How do you still know what products/businesses these represent?
Branding
Easy to distinguish
Original/unique
Simple

Must have 10 logos you like drawn in sketchbook!

2. Turn in Non-objectives!!!! Which ONE would you want printed??????
a. Open it in photoshop. IMAGE >> IMAGE SIZE>> closest to 11"x17" or 17"x11" without being too pixelated!!!! We are printing these!
b. Change resolution to above 100 also.
c. Save as JPG higher than 6 and rename it!!!! "PRINT(NAME)."
d. turn it in to my teacher folder.

3. WORK TIME. Start thinking about what product you want to create and what you want your logo to look like. Will it have the name in it? Or will it be more of an image or shape? Remember, you will WRITE about the product you invented and do a small sketch, but the main project is the DESIGN for the LOGO.

Monday, March 31, 2014

Monday, March 31st --last day

Learning target: SWBAT... demonstrate they understand what a logo is by collecting 10 logos they really like the design of and drawing them in their sketchbook.

1. Check in. Where are we?
Raise hand  -- done with non-obj?
                  --written paragraphs for non-obj?
                  -- done with SKBK #8?
We will critique non-objective on Wednesday. Turn them in and I can print some.

2. New project--- Logos! You will design your own made-up, unique product, any sort of product, and create the logo for it. This project is not focusing on a product design project, but rather its focus is a logo design project.

3. TODAY YOU WILL: Start by searching the internet or using your brain for cool logos you like. Some of you did this for the text SKBK assignment instead of good examples of text. You need to find 10 logos that are interesting to you and draw them in your sketchbook. Yes DRAW. Get creative, use your brain.

Friday, March 28th

Learning target: SWBAT... Complete their non-objective artwork by writing the paragraphs about it and turning it in to Ms. Van Dyke's teacher folder.

Today is a work day!!! You should finish up your non-objective artwork. We will most likely look at these next Wednesday and I will probably print some of them. Make sure you turn in and answer everything in the paragraphs for this project. You can hand write this and give it to the sub.

If you haven't turned in ALL parts of your surrealism project yet DO THAT FIRST!!!!! It is late!!!!

Paragraph about your non-objective-- Write a short paragraph(3-5 sentences) for EACH of your three non-objective pieces describing what grade you think you deserve and WHY. The focus for this project is composition, so describe why your composition is successful if you thought you deserved an A. Use artistic vocabulary like balance, unity, or emphasis. You can also describe your process of how you made the image and why you chose to make it look that way.
You will turn in your 3 non-objective pieces you created as well as your orginal picture you got off the internet and started from.

If you have finished all projects work on SKBK #8!!!!! Do the AP Art poster! See yesterday's blog! You can use word, photoshop, or publisher to do it. Or you can do the other assignment for SKBK #8, the 12 drawings. Still focusing on composition.

Be nice to sub! Save your work!

OR.>>>> SKBK #8-- Pick ONE object and draw it a total of 12 times in your sketchbook. Each time you draw it, you must change the  composition of it. Think of the angle, size, lighting, etc that the object can have. Pick an object that has enough details you can have 12 different drawings.  Your drawings can be about 2x2 inches each, so thumbnails. It should take up at least two pages in your sketchbook, 6 on each. You may draw in pencil or any media of choice. Again, still focusing on composition. Ex below:

Monday, March 24th

Learning Target: SWBAT.... explain what is asked of them for the rest of the week and for specific assignments.    ...all get on the same page.

We will do a lot of critiquing this week
1. You should have turned in your surrealism project by Friday. If you turn it in from now forward, tell me so I can take it off the server and put it in my folder where I grade from! I will get those grades in by next week.

We will do a lot of critiquing this week to ensure that everyone understands composition, what is asked of them for their projects, and how clear/successful their images are.

2. Sketchbook #7 Due WEDNESDAY!!!!!! Gum wrapper non-objective art. I changed the date to earlier because I will be gone Friday- track meet. This skbk focuses on Composition!!!!! We will be looking at all of these as a class and talking about which ones are successful or not, so make sure you bring it!!!! It can be on a separate piece of paper if you want.

3. You must have 3 non-objective works of art. KEEP ADDING STUFF. Work on all three at the same time and go between them to get a fresh look at what you should improve. It is good to step away and come back to something when you get stuck. Think of COLOR, BALANCE, EMPHASIS, TEXTURE, CONTRAST, MOVEMENT, UNITY, etc.

4. Work Time!!!!

5. SAVE!! log off.

Friday, March 21st

Learning Target: SWBAT... distinguish between non-objective art and abstract art by identifying certain artwork.

1. Warm-up:  Which one of these is NOT non-objective?

Which one of these is the best composition? WHY?

2. Sketchbook # 7: DUE FRIDAY MARCH 28th        Gum wrapper non-objective art:
I will give you each ONE piece of gum with a shiny foil wrapper. Your assignment is to peel off the foil and stick it on to a page in your sketchbook to create a non-objective work of art. You will need to add other media to the page to make it a complete work of art. You may choose what other materials you use (magazine, pencil, black marker, stickers, etc). It must be non-objective!!!! You may add more gum wrapper peelings too, but you need to provide them. Your image must take up a whole page in your sketchbook! Focus on COMPOSITION!!!!! balance, movement, contrast, emphasis, etc.
Do NOT bend the wrapper too much, don't crumple it. Place the wrapper on a flat surface and scratch it with your nail as you press down on it. Once a little piece of the foil starts to peel off, not the white paper underneath, grab it and try to slowly peel a larger piece off. Continue peeling the foil off until the wrapper is only a thin piece of white paper. Press the foil piece down on your sketchbook paper with the back of your nail so it sticks. No glue needed!!

3. Work Time!!

4. SAVE!!!! Surrealism projects are due!!! TURN STORY AND IMAGE IN.
